XNA 3.1 Game Development for Teens

Ebooks Free Download | XNA 3.1 Game Development for Teens | XNA 3.0 GAME DEVELOPMENT FOR TEENS is a complete guide to entry level programming and computer game development using XNA 3.0 and the Visual C# 2008 Express programming language for beginners. This book shows readers how to create and execute computer games on their PC, and then how to port their PC games over to their Xbox 360 or Zune player. This book is for anyone looking to begin creating their own computer games with XNA 3.0 and Visual C# 2008 Express.

You will learn the very basics of creating a simple game with XNA 3.1 using C#. The code in the book is complete and works perfectly. The author makes the basic structure of a C#/XNA game clear, i.e. how to use the pre-generated classes to run a game loop. The early chapters on basic C# syntax have some confusing errors in the code snippets, but these can probably be ignored (hopefully). Some concepts of programming in C# are used before they get explained, and this can be disorienting to a beginner. Also, I was a little irritated with the author's frequent and incorrect usage of "as such" instead of "therefore", and the unnecessary use of "as you can see", when, yes, obviously, we can see (but these are stylistic issues that don't impact the usefulness of the material).

Look at the screen shots on the front cover. That's all you will build! That's it!. You will only build one game in the whole book, and that is just a very rudimentary breakout-style game. Frustratingly, that program is designed entirely for use with a game pad. You DO have a game pad for your PC don't you? What? You don't? Well then you will have to look at some earlier code samples and just try to figure out how to shoe-horn the keyboard-oriented code into the final breakout project if you actually want to play it. And just ignore the fact that the splash screen gives the player directions for using the game pad only, even though you aren't using one.
